Brooke Edgecombe and LT Holst Andrea have placed fourth in the competitive Magic Millions World Cup Qualifier in Gatton, Queensland.

The Waipukurau combo notched one of just two clear rounds in the opener of the 19-strong class, with the other going to eventual winner Tom McDermott aboard Alpha Activity.

Nine came back for the second round with five of them carrying four faults. Tom went double clear, stopping clock at 58.56, putting the pressure on Brooke. Four-faulters David Cameron aboard Alan 111 Z and James Paterson-Robertson with Diamond B Vivienne both went clear to finish the two rounds with four, in 60.91 seconds and 56.04 seconds respectively. Brooke and Andrea followed JPR, whose time was the fastest of the class. An early rail at 4A proved costly and she completed with four faults in a time of 62.52 seconds for fourth place.

“She was really good and tried pretty hard out there,” says Brooke. “In the first round I thought she was perfect. There were just two of us clear so I was very pleased with that and she felt really good. I was pleased with her in the second too. I just got a fraction close to 4A in the double and she had it down, but she jumped her way out of that and carried on really well.”

Brooke wanted to contain the round to just the four faults, so didn’t chase JPR’s time or think about the speed.  The combination will start at the next World Cup Qualifier in Caboolture on Saturday night. It is being held indoors.

“It is a quick turnaround – we go to the show on Wednesday and then do a warm-up round on Thursday.”
