Clear cross country rounds were the order of the day from the Kiwi contingent competing at the L’international de Lignieres en Berry in France.
Jesse Campbell is over the moon with the efforts of his horses and sits in fifth place aboard Diachello in the CCI4*-L class.
“I am delighted with my horses,” said Jesse. “Diachello is really starting to come good on all the talent he has got and jumped a really impressive round. He was really classy. He doesn’t particularly love tacky ground, which is what it turned into overnight rain, but he really was basically faultless.”
The combination added just .4 to their dressage score to sit on 29.1 in the 36-strong class. Amsterdam also added time to finish the day in 14th on 34.8. “Amsterdam was also not a lover of the ground but tried incredibly hard and came home with some time faults,” said Jesse. “I couldn’t be happier with how both my horses went. Really looking forward to the showjumping tomorrow.”
Tim Price and Falco added time to sit in eighth place on 30.9 with Tayla Mason and Centennial, in their first tilt at this class were clear and inside time to remain on 36 penalty points, in 15th spot.
Tim withdrew Spartaco while Samantha Lissington and Ricker Ridge Sooty GNZ were one of three combinations eliminated on the cross country. Two others retired. Thomas Carlile (FRA) and Birmane lead on 25.8. Time penalties were certainly prevalent throughout the field with just 10 adding nothing to their scores.
Jonelle Price was clear and inside time with both Faerie Magnifico and Killbunny Andy to sit in fourth and seventh in the CCI3*-L. Alexander Bragg (GBR) and Zagreb have held their lead, sitting on 27.5 penalty points with Jonelle on 29.8 and 31 respectively. Jesse and Cooley Lafitte were also clear and inside time to remain on their 37.8 dressage score with Jonelle adding time to Curly Girl’s tally to finish the day on 42.7. Tayla and Gino Gingerino added to their score too, finishing on 61.1. Just 54 combinations remain from the original 65-strong start list.
In the CCI2*-S, Jonelle and Diamante added .8 time in the showjumping to sit on 29.4 penalty points with the cross country to come this evening. Jesse and Shadow Sister also added a smidgen to their tally to sit in 13th on 34.6. Zazie Gardeau (FRA) and Cesar de Commarin LA lead the field on 26.1.
