Resolutions from FEI Board teleconference (25 March 2020) Dear National Federations, The following resolutions were passed at yesterday’s FEI Board teleconference:
The FEI Board has approved the creation of a series of discipline-specific task forces to evaluate the impact on the FEI Calendar of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has resulted in multiple Event cancellations and the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games until 2021. Each of the eight task forces will focus on a single discipline and will remain in place until any further decision by the Board. The FEI Secretary General, who has overall responsibility for the FEI Calendar, will chair each task force. The FEI Vice Presidents will be members of each task force together with the European Equestrian Federation President and the President of the International Equestrian Organisers Association. The FEI Calendar Administrator, and a representative from both the FEI IT and FEI Legal departments will sit on each of the task forces. The individual task forces, which will also include the Chair of the relevant Technical Committee, a representative of the Athletes and the FEI Sports Director of the specific discipline, will be given the specific remit to review all FEI Calendar related issues caused by the Covid-19 virus and make recommendations on ways to address them. The task forces will also discuss the possibility of prolonging the 31 March deadline for National Federations whose Events have been impacted by Covid-19 to advise the FEI if they wish to apply for a date change. The FEI President will be kept fully updated by each of the task forces, and will attend meetings when necessary in order to assist in finalising proposals for solutions to be put forward to the FEI Board for approval.
Following recommendations from the International Jumping Riders Club (IJRC), the FEI Jumping Committee and the FEI Executive Board, Brazil’s double Olympian Pedro Veniss was appointed by the FEI Board as the Jumping Athlete Representative ad-interim, with full rights, on the Athletes Committee and the Jumping Committee until new elections take place. Maria Gretzer (SUI), Chair of the Athlete Committee and a member of the FEI Executive Board, had taken over the role on a temporary basis following the resignation of the elected Athlete Representative Cian O’Connor (IRL) in September 2019. World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) Q&A on Covid-19 The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), the intergovernmental organisation responsible for improving animal health worldwide, has created a Q&A on Covid-19 in response to multiple queries about animals and the virus.
