Kiwi showjumpers will be hoping Abu Dhabi will be another happy hunting ground this weekend at the CSIO5* Longines FEI Jumping Nations’ Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Bruce Goodin, who is also chef d’equipe for the team, aboard Backtorps Danny V, Daniel Meech and Cinca 3, Richard Gardner with Calisto 5 and Tom Tarver on Popeye will wear the silver fern at the event where they will take on teams from seven other nations in the 250,000 Euro class.

Abu Dhabi is where New Zealand made history in 2018 with a win in prestigious Nations’ Cup class. Bruce, Daniel and Richard were all in that team, along with Samantha McIntosh.
Twelve-year-old Backatorps Danny V, a Dutch-bred gelding who is by Quasimodo Z out of Zepper (by Lupicor), comes off the back of a brilliant win in the CSI5*at Sharjah earlier this month.

Cinca 3, an 11-year-old grey mare, is a German bred Holsteiner by Casall out of L-Cinderella (by Carthago). Richard’s horse Calisto 5 is also German bred, but by Colman out of Tiffany I (by Quintero). New Zealand-bred Popeye is a 10-year-old warmblood by Cardento out of Cufflink.

The class, which is set to go on Saturday afternoon (UAE time), is a qualifier for both the Tokyo Olympic Games and 2021 European Championships. The show starts on Wednesday with the Grand Prix Qualifier, with the Grand Prix on Thursday.

The team has received support from the Jumping Backing Black fundraising campaign to assist with the travel of the horses to Abu Dhabi.
