The Otago Show Jumping Summer Championships was held over the weekend at the Otago-Taieri A&P Showgrounds in Mosgiel. Many riders from across the South Island attended their first show of the New Year.

 

Canterbury rider Rose Alfeld took out the Equissage Horse Grand Prix riding her 14-year-old gelding My Super Nova. Otago riders Grace Percy and Kiwi Spirit came in 2nd with Olivia Robertson riding Grandaire placing 3rd. Rose also took out the Harvie Green Wyatt 125cm Horse Championship on Eyecatcher NZPH.

 

Samantha and Emma Gillies made the day trip from Waitaki Bridge worthwhile with Emma riding Benrose Playtime winning Country TV Pony Grand Prix, Samantha placing 2nd on Junior Disco and Emma also placed 4th riding Benrose Eclipse. Ella Wylie and MF Spot Me were 3rd.

 

Five riders returned for the Jump-off in the Harrison Lane Pro-Am Rider with Kate Cavanagh and Wallflower coming out on top with a clear round in a time of 42.40. Jess Land and Emilio MSH were 2nd jumping clear in a time of 48.50. Gail Richardson riding Eirann Bandoola and Lauren Buckley on Icey Storm finished 3rd and 4th.

 

The Equifibre Junior Rider Class was taken out by Anna Nalder riding Icebreaker II. Three riders returned for the Jump-off. Anna and Icebreaker II were double clear in a time of 34.27 to win, with Sophie Townsend riding Kingslea Kiwi jumping clear to finish 2nd in a time of 35.56. Third place was Pippa Collins on Double J Barman who finished with 4 faults in a time of 31.89.

 

With the only clear rounds, Jacquita Farquhar on Rustic Moonlight took out the Dunstan Horsefeeds Amateur Rider and Makenzie Causer on Finch Farm Lasall won the FMG Young Rider. Courtney Townsend and Corofina ECPH were 2nd in the FMG Young Rider and won the Main-Events University Class.

 

The Mainland Coachwork Ring 1 courses were designed by Emma Barker. Mark Whelan designed the Harvie Green Wyatt Ring 2 and Tony Hutton was the designer in the Dunedin City Council Ring 3.

 

The National Show Jumping Championships will be held at McLeans Island later this week (16th-19th January).
