Richard Gardner has had a solid outing at the CSI4*/2* Show at Salzburg in Austria with his horses Cromwell and Roulette with both horses picking up placings.

Aboard the 11-year-old German-bred gelding Cromwell, Richards placed 10th in the 90-strong 1.45m Alspespan Big Tour Opening with a clean 67.67-second round. The class was won by Stefan Eder (AUT) aboard Cobra who were clear in 60.5 seconds.

The Kiwi combo were then sixth in the Juweliere Banki CSI4* 1.45m Challenge after going clear in 66.14 seconds. The 39-strong class was won by Marcel Marschall (GER) aboard Crystal who came home in 64.2 seconds.

And they picked up a 10th placing in the CSI4* 1.50m Murhof Gruppe Trophy, crossing the flags with a clear round in 70.65 seconds. At the front of the 47 combinations was Alexa Stais (RSA) aboard Quintato in 61.23 seconds. Richard has been competing Cromwell, who is by Chacco-Blue out of Lady (by Losander), internationally since late 2017.

He teamed up with the eight-year-old German-bred mare Roulette to place second in the 1.30m Eskadron CSI2* Small Tour Opening, going clear in 60.25 seconds. The class, which attracted 56 entries, was won by Roberto Cristofoletti (ITA) aboard Got to Give CC in 59.82 seconds.

The mare, who is by Romanoff J out of Little Golden (by Lauritz J), was also 13th in the Eco Dry CSI2* Small Tour Finale which was won by Philipp Makowei (GER) aboard Balouna Windana and attracted 52 entries. Roulette only started competing internationally with Richard last year.
