Country TV Pony Grand Prix Series Winner – Sophie Geddes riding Te Ngaio Raggamuffin pictured at Show Jumping Canterbury Labour Week

Canterbury Rider Sophie Geddes and her pony Te Ngaio Raggamuffin continued a stellar start to their season when they won the Country TV Pony Grand Prix today (Sunday) at the Marlborough Area Spring Jumping Show.

Sixteen year old Sophie is just finishing Year 11 at Lincoln High School and has been riding Raggamuffin since the end of 2016. Prior to starting her show jumping career the 11 year old mare did three seasons of polo before her jumping talent was noticed. Sophie has recorded an impressive list of results at top level with Raggamuffin which saw them place third overall in the Country TV Pony Grand Prix Series last season. Sophie says “she’s in her second full Pony Grand Prix season and is exceeding all expectations. Raggamuffin has been jumping awesomely this season for four consecutive Grand Prix wins, jumping out of her skin every time I enter the ring!”

The Equissage Horse Grand Prix was won by Rose Alfeld and My Super Nova. Nicole White and LC Samson placed second. Both these combinations are returning home to the South Island after competing in the Opening round of the FEI World Cup New Zealand League at the Royal A&P Show in Hawkes Bay.

Georgia Allison and Paintball won the FMG Young Rider class on debut, with Beth Coleman and Sea Minor placing second. Sea Minor’s daughter Sea Coral won the Harrison Lane Pro Amateur Rider series class ridden by Gus Taylor.

Courtney Townsend and Corofina ECPH won the Main Events NZ University Series class. Younger sister Sophie won the Equifibre Junior Rider series class on Kingslea Kiwi. Sophie on her young horse Wildheart also finished first equal in the East Coast Performance Horses Five Year Old class with Nicole White and Kamina VDL.

Rose Alfeld on Eye Catcher NZPH and Margot Curtis on Portobello Regazza were first equal in the Cheleken & Ultramox Six Year Old Series class. Timothy Richards and Firebird won the Dunstan Horsefeeds Amateur Rider class.

Marlborough Show Jumping will host the 2019-2020 South Island Show Jumping and Show Hunter Championships on the 15-16th February 2020.
