The King of Barbury Andrew Nicholson has had a good start to his Barbury Castle International Horse Trials and sits in second spot in the CCI3*-S (section A) – hot on the heels of leader Izzy Taylor (GBR).

Andrew and Andrea BT4 scored 28.2 penalty points for their dressage overnight, with Izzy aboard PSH Lava Flow on 27.5. Sir Mark Todd and Leonidas II are the next best of the Kiwis on 30.6 in ninth place with Andrew and Argentino BK on 34.8 in 15th, Nick Brooks aboard For Fame on 34.9 in 16th and Hollie Swain with Solo XII in 17th on 35.1. Forty-eight of the 100-strong field have completed their dressage with the remainder going overnight.

Mark and Cool Tide lead the New Zealand charge in the CCI3*-S (section B), sitting in 14th equal on 33.2 penalty points with 47 of the 104 combinations having completed their dressage. Izzy Taylor (GBR) is again at the front of the pack, having scored 28.2 on Springpower.

There will be plenty of Kiwis in action overnight as the rest of the competition gets underway, including Andrew aboard Swallow Springs, Jonelle Price on Grovine de Reve and Jesse Campbell with I Spye who are chasing top honours in the CCI4*-S.
