New Zealand’s trio of FEI Nations Cup showjumpers have all had solid starts to the show in Drammen, Norway, overnight.

Daniel Meech aboard Fine and Bruce Goodin on Copain VDB Z both qualified for Sunday’s Grand Prix after clear rounds in the 117-strong 1.45m Gold Big Tour. Daniel finished in 20th spot with Bruce in 29th.

Uma O’Neill and Bruce started their Nations Cup horses Clockwise of Greenhill Z and Backatorps Danny in the 1.40m Gold Medium Tour. Both were clear in the first phase, opting to retire in the second. Daniel had Cinca 3, his second horse, in the same class and things were going well until she cleared the second to last fence when the mare saw one of the finish flags from the first round and jumped it. It rattled her, and she had the back rail down at the last to finish on four faults in 23rd spot.

New Zealand has drawn 11 to start of the 14 teams in the Nations Cup which is scheduled for Friday night (NZ time).
