After finishing second in competition one of the South Island FEI World Jumping Challenge last weekend at Otago, Tyler McKee made his long trip up from Southland worthwhile when claiming first and second in the second Competition on Sunday at the Canterbury Labour Weekend Show Jumping Carnival held at McLeans Island. With the 9yo Lansing mare Lumarzo, Tyler produced the only double clear round to win and finished second on his nominated ride Stratos carrying 1 time fault. Tamara Silcock and Steal Magnolia were third on a total of four faults. Last weeks winners Tayler Nalder and Icebreaker II finished in fourth, after picking up 5 faults in the first round. Tayler and Icebreaker were the winners of the Best Presented horse in the competition. The third and final round of the South Island FEI World Challenge will be hosted by SCNO at Waimate on the 1st December.

Lex Peddie designed in Ring One. The Dunstan Horsefeeds and Equifibre Pro Am series class was won by Katie Meredith and Ngahiwi Double Cross with the only clear round from a field of eleven. The FMG Young Rider saw four riders jump off. Out first Makenzie Causer and Lasall put the pressure on with a clear round and although her time was bettered, nobody else finished clear.

Three clear rounds returned to jump off in the Dunstan Horsefeeds and Equifibre Junior Rider. First to jump off Caitlin Adams and Hammertime jumped clear in 51.25, Brianna Bailey and Bridgemere Havana had an early rail but finished faster in 48.48. Last out Sophie Townsend and Kingslea Kiwi jumped clear in 42.22 to win their fourth Junior Rider start for the season.

Ring two course designer Sarah Ching had an 11 way jump off in the competitive Hinterland Amateur Rider Series class. With six of the eleven combinations jumping double clear competition was close. Jayne Beattie and Astek Reveal finished first in a time of 36.48 just ahead of second place getters Rebecca Smithey and SD Amourosi time of 36.62.

The Country TV Pony Grand Prix was won by the consistent combination of Rosa Buist-Brown and her 13yo skewbald mare Junior Disco. With no clear first rounds two four faulters returned to jump off, Rosa and Junior Disco produced a fast clear round which Olivia Adams and Mr Black Magic couldn’t match so they settled for second with Sophie Geddess and Te Ngaio Raggamuffin in third place. In the Equissage Horse Grand Prix Tegan Fitzsimon took the quinella with Windermere Cappucino first and Double J Monarch second. Tegan was the only rider to jump clear in the first round and did so on both her horses so no jump off was required.
