Kiwi eventers are well in touch with the leaders in their respective classes at events in France and the UK after the first day of dressage at each.
Tim Price and Falco lie in fourth place on 29.3 penalty points in the CCI3* at the Hartpury International Horse Trials in the UK. Aoife Clark (IRL) and Fernhill Adventure lead the field on 25.5 with a second day of dressage still to come.
Jonelle Price and Classic Moet scored 32.3 to sit in 11th with Andrew Nicholson and Teseo in 13th on 32.4. Andy Daines and Spring Panorama scored 35 with Ginny Thompson aboard Star Nouveau right behind on 35.5. Still to come in the second half of the field is Andrew aboard Swallow Springs.
In the CCI2*, Andrew and Andrea BT4 are the best of the Kiwis in third spot on 31.7. Ben Lee Liles and Ballyellen Buzz lead on 29.8. Andrew’s 35.3 penalty point aboard Zacarias sees them in 11th spot with Bruce Haskell and Amiro Sky on 36.2 in 15th and Dan Jocelyn on Fjury on 42.1 in 28th.
Still to come for New Zealand is Jesse Campbell aboard Diachello II, Andrew on As I and Tim Rushbridge on Peaky Blinder.
Jesse rode a lovely test aboard Morning Fawlty in the CCI1* to claim third spot with 28.2 at the end of the first day of competition. Erika Sjostrom (SWE) and Dantino B lead on 27.8. Dan and Duke of Champions will compete overnight.
In France, Sir Mark Todd and McClaren were awarded 34 penalty points for their dressage on the opening day at Le Grand Complet in Haras du Pin. Maxime Livio (FRA) and Pica D’or lead on 26.4. Mark will compete aboard Leonidas II.
He and Dusk til Dawn are in second spot on 31 in the CCI2* with half the field having completed their dressage. Justine Bonnet (FRA) and Play Boy Demesille lead on 29.8.
