The Kiwis were just off the podiums on both sides of the Channel this weekend after competition in the UK and France.

Andrew Nicholson was the best of the bunch at the Hartpury International Horse Trials where he was fourth and fifth in the CCI2*. Nicholson added 3.6 cross country time penalties to finish in fourth place on Andrea BT4 on 35.3 penalty points. It was a similar story with his fifth placed As Is, who picked up 2 time penalties in the cross country to finish the event on 35.9.

Ryuzo Kitajima (JPN) and Vick du Gisors JRA won the event on their dressage score of 29.4. Dan Jocelyn and Fjury finished in 15th spot on 42.5 with Jesse Campbell and Diachello II not far behind in 20th on 44.5. Tim Rushbridge and Peaky Blinder ended the day on 49.3 in 28th with Andrew right behind him aboard Zacarias on 49.3 for 28th. Bruce Haskell and Amiro Sky were eliminated in the cross country.

Jesse and Morning Fawlty were New Zealand’s best in the CCI1* with their 11th place finish on 32.2. Dani Evans and Hollywood Dancer took the win on their dressage score of 27.1. Dan and Duke of Champions also added nothing to their dressage to finish in 27th on 36.5.

In France, Sir Mark Todd was ninth and 13th with Leonidas II and McClaren in the CICO3* at Le Grand Complet in Haras du Pin. It was a rather expensive four faults in the showjumping that saw Leonidas II slip from the podium and finish on 31.6 penalty points. McClaren was all clear in the final phase for a 34.4 score. The class was won by local star Maxime Livio (FRA) and Pica D’or on 26.4.
