Jumping Chef d’Equipe Helena Stormanns

Jumping chef d’equipe for WEG Helena Stormanns says her long listed riders may have ridden a few highs and lows already but she’s looking forward to the championship getting underway.

“Our preparation has been filled with some ups and downs,” she said. “We had great results in Barcelona (at the 2017 Nations Cup Final) and then the win in Abu Dhabi . . . but unfortunately one of the top horses has been injured since then.”

The Kiwi efforts at the Rome CSI5* was another big highlight for Stormanns.

“There is definitely a lot of excitement and we have great riders with experience and super horses to match. Now we have passed all the necessary milestones and need to keep everyone fit and well.”

Each rider had their own schedule in the build-up to WEG.

“Barring injury, we are on course. If any horse gets injured, it will be a major blow to the team.”
However, this veteran of the showjumping world can’t wait to see her Kiwi charges ride into the arena at Tryon.

“It is most exciting having top riders with championship experience, riding horses who are championship level.”
