Jesse Campbell and Amsterdam 21 have posted a solid 28.1 penalty point dressage to sit in fourth place at the end of the first day at the CCI4* in Luhmuhlen, Germany.

Campbell was very pleased with the 12-year-old grey gelding’s “great dressage”.

There’s a tie at the top of the leaderboard, with Boyd Martin (USA) aboard Shamwari and Kitty King (GBR) on her Rio Olympic Games horse Celyor LAN on 27.4 with Vittoria Panizzon (ITA) on Chequers Play the Game, in their first 4* event together, in third on 28.1.

Twenty-four of the field have completed their dressage, with the second half of the field set to go overnight. Blyth Tait aboard Havanna, Jonelle Price on Faerie Dianimo and Campbell on his second mount, Cleveland are all in action tonight.

There’s plenty of talk about the rather technical and large cross country course, with riders agreeing it asks plenty of questions of both horse and rider, and calls for full concentration throughout.
