Kiwis eventers are heading en masse to the Tattersalls International Horse Trials in Ireland this week.

There are seven combinations each in The Irish Field CCI3* and George Mernagh Memorial C IC3* with a couple in the Eventing Ireland CCI2* and one in the Land Rover CCI1*.

Tim Price has the 11-year-old bay mare Cekatinka in the CCI3* field, a horse previously ridden by his very in-form wife Jonelle. Tim won the CCIO3* at Boekelo last year with Cekatinka and will be looking for a good showing at Tatts. He is also competing in the class aboard Up in the Air, while Blyth Tait has both Dassett Courage and Leo Distinction on the card.

Lucy Jackson has entered her nine-year-old Hanoverian Superstition for his first CCI3* start. Dan Jocelyn’s 10-year-old Grovine de Reve is also on the card.

In the CIC3* Jackson has her campaigner Willy Do making his first outing at Tatts, while James Avery is in on Zazu, Jocelyn aboard his Irish-bred Blackthorn Cruise, Tim Price with Xavier Faer – the horse he completed Burghley with last year, Jonelle on her Rio Olympic mount Faerie Dianimo and Tait aboard Havanna, who until last year was competed by Lizzie Green.

British-based New Zealander Andrew Bennie is the president of the CCI3* and CIC3* ground. The event is also part of the horse Sport Ireland Eventing Challenge 2018 which offers a 10,000 Euro prize to the victor.

The first horse inspection is on Wednesday, followed by the dressage, cross country and showjumping.
