Jessica Woods & LV Encostalot, Taupo Veterinary Centre CCN105 Open Winners 2018

Jessica Woods superb 21 penalty point dressage test set her up for victory in the Taupo Veterinary Centre CCN105 Open at the NRM3DE today.

Riding five-year-old LV Encostalot, they headed home 29 other combinations to take the win.

“I am just so happy,” said 25-year-old Woods, “especially considering he is just five and there were so many good horses in that class.”

The mum of one from Ohaupo says the wet didn’t bother the Australian thoroughbred – who is by Encosta de Lago, out of Iseult and owned by Little Valley Farm. “Balance and rhythm is the key.”

It’s been a good season for the duo, who also won the South Island Young Event Championship and the pre-novice at Kihikihi.

Woods, who is trained by Andrew Scott and Debbie Barke, says she wouldn’t be able to follow her passion if not for the support of her family and partner Kane.

“They allow me to be both a mum and a rider – I couldn’t do it without them.”

Finishing second behind Woods was Eden Doull (Pukekohe) aboard Noble Value on 28.1 penalty points, with Caroline Howell (Hastings) and Telestory in third on 32 and Graham Fox (Dargaville) aboard Oranoa Tobasco in fourth on 32.8.

Twenty-one of the 29 starters completed the class.
