AC Tigger - Owned by Jenny Chandler & Kerry Armstrong
Jenny Chandler started riding at 10 and did all the ‘usual’ Pony Club activities, but by her own admission while she was doing all right, she wasn’t startlingly good at any. But in 2004 she discovered endurance as part of the World Masters Games and has never looked back. Suddenly she discovered the riding she loved to do was actually training for this ‘new’ discipline. She was hooked and it turned out she was pretty good at it too.
A disappointing run with Lace and Fineness at the 2010 WEG was a steep learning curve for the animal behaviour technical officer from the psychology department at the University of Waikato. However, it made for an emotional and nearly perfect return to New Zealand competition when Lace was awarded best conditioned horse and placed third in the National Championships the following year.
She teamed up with AC Tigger in 2010. He was bought unbroken off Trade Me by another endurance rider, who sold him to Chandler after an unfortunate accident. Chandler has started breeding her own endurance horses at her Te Awamutu base, and has two – soon to be three – out of Lace already. For Chandler, the chance to represent her country doing something she loves is a dream come true.
