Alison Higgins is a horse breeder and farmer of 3,500 acre sheep and beef station with husband Phillip. She almost gave up riding after losing her 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games home-bred horse Twynham El Omar.
The horse, who bit her thumb during the champs and almost put paid to their ride, had to be put down after getting colic at the 2013 national championships.
Instead Higgins dug deep and has created a new and exciting partnership with Northwinds Apollo, who she took to the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.
